I posed the following question to my friends on Instagram: “What should I write about next?” My friend, Stacey, wrote back, simply, “Soul Connections!” I was originally going to write about poem about it, but couldn’t get started. I decided to take a more free-form approach.
The following post is about six women who have played an important role in my life. These are my dearest soul connections, and I would like to introduce them to you (in no particular order).
Born under the sign of Gemini. My mother, my inspiration, my earthbound guide in matters of spirit, and my original wellspring of love. From you I have learned how to fight my own battles and make my own choices, no matter what the consequences. You prepared me to take my place as an adult into this world, which has at times seemed rather chaotic and conflicted. You taught me to broaden my pallet and keep my interests varied. You have helped me to find my own way towards spiritual enlightenment. I can only hope to bring some divine light into this world and leave a legacy that any mother would be proud of.
Born under the sign of Scorpio. My dearest, best friend, lover of goth, magical alchemist, and a warrior spirit on an evolutionary path. Let me just say that without you, my life would be much less colorful and certainly much less fun. From you I have learned to take a warrior-based approach to life. Not in a conflict-based, patriarchal way; but in a way which I can conquer my own fears and doubts, head-on. You uplift me, time and again, and remind me how “awesome” a friend I am. Our relationship is revelatory: we go deep and search for those ultimate truths. I will always be here for you on your path towards fulfillment. Rock on!
Born under the sign of Aquarius. An ethereal, Nordic goddess bringing messages of hope and transformation in the face of tragedy. I connected with you a little more than a year ago, and my life has never been the same since. From you, I learned the meaning of soul tribe. And what a wonderful discovery that was! I learned about the tools we can all use to transform our lives for the better. Like a butterfly, I am “unbecoming” because of your example. Your life story is an inspiration to me, and I am honored to be in your life. We are indeed family.
Born under the sign of Cancer. A devoted mother, nature lover, and fierce advocate for her femininity. You’ve given me a lot of food for thought, and some really great ideas for my blog. You’ve taught me that I can just sit still and feel what is coming without having to analyze it. I can be who I am with no shame, apologies, or explanations. You have been a staunch supporter of my poetry, and that means the world to me. The world needs people like you, desperately. #NoFilter.
Born under the sign of Scorpio. A mysterious and deeply passionate woman looking for love and transcendence. In my version of reality, Lord Byron was inspired by you when he wrote, She walks in beauty, like the night. And like the night sky peppered with twinkling stars, you inspire me in ways that go beyond the usual platitudes. Oh, I have enjoyed our long philosophical discussions about men, spirituality, and life in general. We good deep, too! And it always seems that we know when the other needs our help. Just in the nick of time, we connect, we process, and we are edified. From you, I have learned to just be.
Born under the sign of Capricorn. A serene incarnation of Mother Earth herself, with the gift of divination. You were one of the first people I met on Instagram, and I was delighted to make your acquaintance, as a fellow Capricorn myself! There’s a lot of mutual understanding and support between the two of us. It just flows. From you, I learned to trust my feelings and to trust others from an intuitive perspective. Learning your life story was a real eye-opener for me, as there are some interesting parallels to my story as well. You have such a great sense of humor! Anyone who thinks Capricorns aren’t spirited needs to spend some time with the two of us!
